Meet Author Richard Blatt

Richard's Journey

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard Blatt has always held a deep appreciation for storytelling, history, and the quiet moments that shape a life. He began writing while attending Harvard College, where he studied history and writing and developed an early love for creative writing. After graduation, a move to Los Angeles sparked his first attempt at a novel—a manuscript that would ultimately be burned on the beach in Malibu. Life pulled him in other directions: a Stanford Law School education, the launch of a niche healthcare business serving military and veteran populations, and extensive travel across the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. But the pull toward writing never faded.

Years later, a biking accident and a trip to Europe reignited Richard’s creative spark. He began journaling by hand, a practice he continues to this day, and those notebooks became the foundation for his debut set of novels. Drafted entirely by hand, the books are deeply introspective and emotionally rich, at times drawing on his own memories and observations, but fictionalized to explore universal questions of identity, friendship, loyalty, and the passage of time.

Set against vivid historical backdrops, from 1970s college life to the Great Depression and beyond—these novels explore coming-of-age experiences and the ways in which we learn to navigate love, loss, and legacy. With references to rock and blues music, real historical events, and comic books, the work is both nostalgic and sharply observant, capturing the texture of a generation and the timeless rhythms of growing up.

Influenced by writers like Thomas Pynchon, David Foster Wallace, and Eve Babitz, Richard Blatt brings a thoughtful, often humorous lens to human connection and cultural change. His characters are introspective, curious, and shaped by the world around them—much like their creator.

Today, Richard lives in Cincinnati with his wife Karen, a steadfast collaborator in both life and business. Together, they’ve raised three children and restored several historic buildings throughout the city. When he’s not writing, he oversees a group of healthcare and technology companies that serve clients across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. He finds balance through travel, exercise (often cycling or swimming), and a continued love of books—especially those handwritten ones that started it all.
